This photo was taken in June of 2000 from one of those tiny Polaroid kids cameras they sold years ago. It was backstage at my friend Anthony's wedding and we had asked the priest if he would "fake laugh" with us before we went out to do the ceremony. It seemed appropriate, we figured why not? But now we cannot look at this photo without laughing at the "wrongness of it". Not because it's sacrilegious mind you, but because it looks like the priest is being hung by the neck. You just need to imagine a little rope rising up from his neck.

On our recent visit to Los Angeles - dinner with friends Matt Clouston and Jon Malmed...this had the potential to be a great fake laugh but Malmed just couldn't seem to nail it (looks more like he's doing a Borsht-Belt comic take) ....otherwise it's not bad.

My friend Mike Ganley forwarded this gem to me via The Daily News' Gatecrasher Column. Not sure if the cast of "When In Rome" came across "The Fake Laugh Project" and decided to do a fake laugh just for us...or it's just merely a coinky-dink...or heaven forbid, IT'S REALLY THEIR LAUGH?!

In any event, it's awesome!

The Original "Fake Laugh" (well, original to me) occurred in my old Hell's Kitchen neighborhood with my good friend Anthony DiAmbrosio. It hearkens back, I suppose, to the old freeze frame sitcoms of the 1970's where the final frame would freeze with characters enjoying the closing moment of the show as the credits rolled over their faces. Anyway here is the first one, circa 1995...I'm not sure Anthony's Brother Joe knew exactly what was going on....
